April Showers...

It's been a long April, and the wettest on record here in Oklahoma. It's been so wet we've barely been able to get anything done! We'll never complain about rain, since we're more frequently plagued with a lack of rain than an abundance; but our hearts go out to some of our neighbors who had their properties flood and sustained damage.

Our pasture grasses are beginning to come in abundantly, and the garden has very much gotten away from me, it's safe to say. I spent a few hours today pulling weeds and uncovering carrots, peas, and turnips, including the largest turnip I've ever seen! The pigs and rabbits greatly enjoyed the weeds. The potatoes have sprouted, the mint bed is coming back with a vengeance, and we're hopeful for a bumper crop of garlic later this year.

The pigs are doing well, and they'll do even better once we get their mobile paddocks made up. Our rabbit buck, unfortunately, died unexpectedly early last month, but we've sourced a new buck! He's very sweet and cute and we hope he'll do well for us, and therefore for you. We have some fledgling chicks in the brooder, eggs in the incubator, and more on order. Our laying hen numbers have been slowly dwindling due to an outbreak of egg eating, which is a capital offense here on the farm.
